New job at Manatee County Public Library

I realize it’s been awhile since I last updated here. On August 31, I started a new full-time position as a Floating Librarian at the Manatee County Public Library in Bradenton, Florida. I completed my internship at the Ringling Museum library in early August, so the timing worked out great. For this position, I spend the majority of my time at the Central Library in downtown Bradenton, right on the Manatee river. I also float to the five other branches when needed. There are 2 other branches in Bradenton, one in Palmetto, one in Ellenton and one in Anna Maria Island.  What I particularly like about this job is that I get to do a bit of everything. I work in Technical Services in Central Library (which involves collection development, cataloging and processing) but also work in the circulation and reference departments there. I am also working with other staff for the planning of a future makerspace in Central, and possibly in the other branches as well.

I am excited to stay on in this area of the country. I also have family that live in the state as well. There is so much to do here!

Presentation on Library Makerspaces at the University of Illinois

On April 16, 2015, I did a brief presentation of my research that I have conducted in my independent study on Library Makerspaces. This presentation was part of the GSLIS Master’s Student Showcase at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I have included a link to the YouTube video.
